Kankaria

Kankariya lake is one of the famous tourist places in Ahmadabad, and it is built by the Mughal emperor around 500 years back. It is perfectly round, and there is a misconception that the Kankariya Lake inspires the SBI logo. Kankariya lake consists of the island Nagina wadi, which is a garden situated right middle of it.

The exact origin is not known behind its name. Some people say that the Kankariya name was chosen due to huge piles of limestone dugout during excavation. Some people say that sultan Qutb-ud-Din asked Shah Alam to select the location for the garden and tank, which then scattered all the petals and thereby owing the name of Kankariya Lake.

Kankariya Lake has many attractions, and Rs 10 is the entry fee to enter Kankariya Lake.

  • Padma Shri awards Reuben in the year 1974 for the Kankariya Zoo establishment. 
  • Kankariya Lake can be visited throughout the year but the best time to visit Kankariya Lake is the last week of December due to the Kankariya carnival.
  • It is recommended to place the visit in the evening time to enjoy the laser light show and musical fountain show.
